No two unhoused people are the same, and their needs reflect that. Since your support helped the launch of our Mobile Health team this past fall, our outreach staff has worked closely to meet their unique needs by striving to eliminate barriers to accessing mental health, drug and alcohol screenings, and basic medical care.

The goal of the Mobile Health team is, ultimately, to give people the hope they need in order to believe in their own abilities. Those we have helped include survivors of domestic violence, elderly individuals on fixed incomes who’ve lost their homes, veterans, and people dealing with a mental health or addiction crisis.

With a van stocked full of supplies needed to help those living on the street, our Mobile Health team visits encampments of the unhoused regularly. Frequent visits and meetings at encampment locations allow for CRMHS staff to touch base with familiar faces and build trusting relationships with former and new clients.

Adam’s Story

During one of the Mobile Health team’s regular visits, our staff connected with an individual named Adam, who was currently unhoused due to a mental health crisis. After seeing the team several times at the encampment, Adam started to become curious about CRMHS services and the Mobile Health team’s process for connecting people with services.

Over the next six months, the Mobile Health team continued to greet Adam and offer support during every contact—eventually building trust with him. By the end of April, team peers had strengthened their relationship with Adam, and he was willing to meet with our mental health counselor and medical team to access resources and care.

The right assistance and support can make a world of difference for people struggling with their mental health, even if it’s just being a familiar face or a listening ear for someone to talk to. With the support of our Mobile Health Team, Adam found hope and was able to continue on his path to wellness.

Thanks to continued support from partners and community members, the CRMHS Mobile Health Team is making a difference, and lives are changing!
